NBA Ref Wants to Fight Tim Duncan.
April 17th 2007 12:37
Contrary to popular belief Tim Duncan is not a robot. Repeat: Tim
Duncan is not a robot and is actually a human being full of flesh and bones. How do we know? He was laughing, yes, laughing on the bench which scored him a second technical foul from referee Joey Crawford earning the Big Fundamental an ejection.
This is where things get interesting as one might say.
Let’s backtrack for a moment shall we? Timmy copped the first ‘T’ for complaining to Crawford that the refs missed a foul committed on him and the first one was probably deserved.
The second technical is a different matter. Crawford seemingly gave the ‘T’ to Duncan without any provocation, whilst he was sitting on the bench, and roughly one and a half minutes after the first technical foul.
Duncan was on the bench laughing it up with teammate Robert Horry when the unbelievable transpired with the ejection.
This was only the second time that Timmy was kicked out of a game in his illustrious, yet far from colourful career. After the game Duncan stated that he believed Crawford had a problem with him and that he insisted the only dialogue that transpired between the two after the first technical was a line of questioning in regards to a foul he believed he was on the receiving end of.
After that came the bombshell revelation – Duncan added further that Crawford challenged the 7-foot basketball behemoth to a fight; “He looked at me and said, 'Do you want to fight? Do you want to fight?' “Duncan said.”If he wants to fight, we can fight. I don't have any problem
with him, but we can do it if he wants to. I have no reason why in the middle of a game he would yell at me, 'Do you want to fight?' (Wojnarowski, Yahoo!, 2007)
Talk about fightin’ words from little Joey Crawford.
As always there are two sides of the story and Crawford in his statement to the press had a different recollection of events while trying to defend his seemingly insane decision of ejecting Duncan who believed he didn’t do anything to warrant an ejection; “That's his opinion. He said nothing when he was walking off the court and he called me a piece of [blank]? Is that nothing? He's complaining. He was constantly complaining. He was complaining when he was on the court. Then he got on the bench and kept doing the same stuff. So I just ejected him.” (Wojnarowski, Yahoo!, 2007)
It should be noted to anyone who isn’t familiar with NBA basketball that Tim Duncan is one of the classier and quiet guys in the league. He isn’t demonstrative or particularly colourful towards the public and the media, but apparently he is a witty guy in private. So, the accusations directed at Crawford give room for pause because he doesn’t take such actions lightly.
We can only hope that Crawford is in charge of a Spurs playoff game and that the fight does transpire. What a sight that would be!
Today’s video is of the aforementioned events. NBALOUD reports, you decide. Oh, those words made me shudder just writing them.

I don't know much about basketball but it does seem to me to be a little classier than other sports.
The boys have nice faces, i.e. the players, the politics here are beyond me, but it is hard to feel much sympathy for people who get paid so much.
I'd love to get paid for writing anything really, but, I guess the basketball is not for me....sad.
Good clip, and you obviously understand it all very well.

Ponderous
Yep, either a wrestling match or a celebrity (kinda) boxing match between the two.

classier. that is a more debatable concept. and yes they do get paid an obscene amount of money and it is rather disconcerting sometimes when i write about so and so millions in such a detached manner that i feel like i am writing about a couple of hundred dollars.
thanks once again for your contribution
charles - good ol' joey crawford has a history of overreacting in games and they should perhaps get into bikinis and wrestle each other in jelly or honey?
