The Sophomores Win and David Lee Gets MVP Award. Also, Scottie Pippen Making a Comeback?
February 17th 2007 05:05
Whoa, talk about your blowouts in a supposed All-Star game. In today’s rookie challenge game the sophomores routed the rookies, 155-114.
David Lee one of the good things about the New York Knicks showed his stuff by garnering MVP honours for the game with a 30 point performance, whilst going on a perfect 14-for-14 shooting night. It is not a coincidence that Lee also leads the league in field goal percentage hitting 61.2 of his shots.
NBALOUD has become a big David Lee fan because of his hustle and hard play that has seen him play major minutes in Broadway and making him the most popular Knick along the way. Why wouldn’t anyone love a guy with that kind of hustle and heart? He still is sporting a black eye that he copped during a game, whilst trying to prevent a dunk!
The star Knick sophomore is having such a breakout season that he is in contention for either the sixth man or the most improved player of the year award. One thing that sets players apart is their effort and Lee as a consequence is seeing his stock rise dramatically; “I was hoping for the opportunity and I was really happy to get it," Lee said. "My teammates helped out as well this year and then to just get in a game like this is all about just having fun.” (AP, 2007)
Another breakout sophomore dominated today’s proceedings with Monta Ellis of Golden State chipping in with an additional 28 points to really kick down the rookies.
The much lauded Chris Paul was the third head in the super soph squad that proved to be too much for the rookies and battling Lee for game MVP honours with an outstanding and smooth as can be 16 point, 17 assist output.
Oh, this writer neglected to mention that the second year sensations broke the scoring record set in 2004. Duh, that would be like the most obvious thing in the world!
Rudy Gay and Paul Millsap were the only two rookies that were effective offensively scoring 22 points each but the newbies got crunched to such an extent that at one stage they were down by 43 points. Adam Morrison also had a decent game with 16.
This game was the usual All-Star fare with little defence played, a lot of showboating and dunks going on. Rookies take heart, the squad that thrashed you this year got bounced themselves last year so there is hope yet.
We end today’s posting with news that Scottie Pippen has announced his desire to make a comeback to the NBA. Pip, 41, has stated his wish to play for a contending team this year and has said that he is in better health and condition than any time in the last five years.
