Today’s hero is without a shadow of a doubt the Net’s Richard Jefferson. Let’s just say he flew in and saved the day at perfect moment. Strapping on his cape, RJ leapt into the air and caught the ball putting it in the dying seconds to see his team through to the next round pipping the Raptors at the post, 98-97. Want a classic understatement? This game was close!
RJ’s heroics didn’t end with the final basket though – Toronto had one more chance to win the game and drew up a brilliant play that would have freed up Chris Bosh for the easiest of baskets but Jose Calderon’s pass didn’t have enough pep to it and RJ stole the ball to really affirm his pimpin’ status for the night.
Jefferson may have basked in the glory but it was Jason Kidd who once again had a mammoth performance with 18 points, 15 assists and eight rebounds. The Californian Kidd has also been absolutely dashing during this first round battle.
Toronto didn’t go down without a fight after being trounced in every game in Jersey this time they battled hard with Chris Bosh doing all he possibly could to keep his team alive in trying to force a game seven, including scoring a big 13 points in the final quarter to try and rescue his boys. This will be a huge learning experience for the young Raptors and Coach of the Year Sam Mitchell who was thoroughly out coached by his Jersey counterpart in Lawrence Franks.
New Jersey will now meet Cleveland in the next round and it should be a mouth watering battle with all the stars fit and healthy in this battle. Very niiiccceeee.
The video today is of a crazy Baron Davis play that just illustrates how good the man was in the first round. Everything went B. Dizzle’s way metaphorically and literally.
