The Future of the NBA has arrived!
April 23rd 2006 12:38
The NBA playoffs have finally arrived and it feels like Christmas in April (and I thought Christmas ‘came’ only once a year. Boom-boom). The future of the NBA has landed and his name is LeBron James. The wunderkind in his playoff debut managed to score 32 points, grab 11 boards and 11 dimes, while leading the Cavs to victory against the Wizards. Can, anyone say freak? People who are fans of NBA basketball shouldn’t be surprised at this stupendous debut from King James because he has surpassed expectations from the very first day he put on an NBA uniform. Greatness beckons for the young fella and you can be sure that kids around the world will be wearing his jersey, putting the number 23 back in vogue.
It seems that today’s opening games are giving NBA watchers a glimpse into the future, because the Baby Bulls played a valiant opening game against the Heat. Everyone in Miami was decked in white as a show of solidarity, and Miami didn’t disappoint their fans by coming away victorious. D. Wade and Shaq led the way but there were even contributions from the other players as well for the boys from the M-I-A. The most impressive aspect of this game, however, was the performance of Chicago who regularly found themselves behind, but still managed to keep on clawing their way back into the game with Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich and Andres Nocioni starring for the Baby Bulls. This game was without incident when Udonis Haslem decided to throw his mouthpiece at referee Joey Crawford after he felt he was fouled, which wasn’t called. Tsk, tsk, tsk, bad boy. I’m telling your mum!
The men from Chi-town will not lie down and roll over in this series, and it should be a hard fought battle between the Heat and the Bulls.
Moving to the west coast we see the Clippers notch up their first playoff victory since the 1997 season. Wow, 1997, those were the days. Wasn’t it nice that the worst behaviour from a US President involved cigars and a blue dress, stains and an intern? But, I digress, the Clips pulled it off with Carmelo Anthony missing three consecutive shots, including the potential game winner. What are you doing ‘Melo? If you are primetime you have to hit those shots. But in the words of Karen Carpenter and Happy Gilmore: “We’ve only just begun”.
Finally, there was another game. I can’t quite remember who played or what the result was…Oh, the Spurs won. Yay!*
* That was sarcasm kids.
