Shaq Involved in Botched Child Porn Raid. NBA Players Told To Leave Guns At Home.
October 28th 2006 03:54
The sight of Shaquille O’Neal as a sheriff will send
shivers down the spines of the guilty, but imagine when you’re the innocent victim of an attempt by the big fella in trying to arrest you? Anyone who has seen the episode of Punk’d where Shaq is the victim would be intimately aware of the inner rage that Shaq Daddy can exhibit.
It had been confirmed by the Virginia Sheriff’s office that O’Neal was involved in a botched child pornography raid.
Shaq Daddy who moonlights as a Sheriff during the offseason was present when Sheriffs raided the wrong house in search of child porn, while scaring the shit out of an innocent man and his family.
How did these almost comical events unfold? Well, the authorities were given the wrong IP address by the ISP. If this wasn’t the real world you’d think that it was the Springfield Police Department led by the “savvy” Chief Wiggum who was involved in this raid.
In other news NBA head honcho David Stern has put on a public edict for all players in the league to stop packing heat whilst out in public. In a nation that adores guns the advice to keep firearms at home might fall on deaf ears.
The issue of NBA players and guns has received immense publicity of late due to the actions of Stephen Jackson and Sebastian Telfair who have recently been involved in altercations where firearms have been produced.
David Stern has sagely stated that; “It's a pretty, I think, widely accepted statistic that if you carry a gun, your chances of being shot by one increase dramatically," Stern said during his preseason conference call. "We think this is an alarming subject, that although you'll read players saying how they feel safer with guns, in fact those guns actually make them less safe. And it's a real issue.” (Mahoney, AP, 2006)
In a sign of the gun culture of America the player’s association agreement with the league, players are allowed to carry licensed guns but aren’t allowed to carry arms during official league business. Rookies even get a crash course in the legalities, pros and cons of carrying guns.
It’s surreal that the head of the NBA has to inform grown men of the fact that it probably isn’t a good idea to be packing heat in nightclubs and other alcohol fuelled environments – it’s amazing that no NBA players have been maimed yet.
The timing of Stern’s warning has come at a time when the NBA has shaken off a lot of the negative publicity that has dogged the league in the past and is keen for the focus to continue on the more savoury aspects of the NBA. Players feeling the need to be carrying a Glock or Beretta while out in public is absurd even if there is potential for drama. Yes, players may be faced with the potential for unwanted attention but these men are savvy enough to deal with the public without having to bust a cap on anyone’s ass – or at least you’d like to think so.
