Shaq Daddy and the Heat Win the East.
June 3rd 2006 06:49
Miami have booked their place in the NBA Finals with an emphatic 95-
78 victory over the Pistons, while Dallas are just one win away from their first finals appearance in franchise history with a 117-101 win over the Suns yesterday.
A delirious Miami crowd witnessed Shaquille O’Neal carry the Heat on his ample backside to lead them one step closer to the promised land. Yes, my prediction of a Pistons championship run has sadly come to an end, but it goes without saying that Miami thoroughly deserved their series win.
Detroit was outplayed by Miami in every facet of the game, while an absolutely lousy shooting percentage doomed the Pistons to a sudden death in game six.
Shaq Daddy had 28 points and 16 rebounds, while being pretty much unstoppable. The Diesel was ably assisted by a red hot Jason Williams scoring 21 points on 10-for-12 shooting. He was smokin’!
It was appropriate that Shaq was the catalyst for victory today because he is a sublimely talented big man. Although, Dwayne Wade is the star of the team, Shaq, is the leader. Speaking of Wade he was ill with the flu and spent the previous night in hospital and on an IV drip.
Flash’s first half was forgettable, but he turned it around to have a nasty third quarter where he was scoring at will. Memories and comparisons to Michael Jordan’s 1997 flu-ridden Finals appearance were inevitable but Jordan was off the charts in that game. No comparison.
The stars for Detroit were largely muted and a horrific shooting night for the team where they collectively hit a lousy 33 percent from the field pretty much exacerbated the distance between the two teams this time around.
Rip Hamilton was tireless as usual with 33 points, but the rest of the Detroit stars went AWOL.
Miami will be a very tough team to beat for either western conference teams because they are playing like a well oiled machine.
What a great link by this writer to talk about the match-up out west.
In this game Dirk Nowitzki let it all hang out! The Big Sauerkraut was unstoppable dropping 50 points and playing like the superstar that he is. Dirk Diggler was so hot that in the fourth quarter the man went on a 15-0 run on his own to set a new Dallas playoff individual scoring record.
Miami once again are waiting for their opponents and will be well rested which is of paramount importance for Shaq. The longer the series out west goes for, the better it is for the daddy. Game on!
