Oh, Woe is Me the Humble NBA Writer.
May 11th 2006 10:50
First and foremost an admission: I seriously didn’t think that an article would exist on the 11th May 2006. The reason being? As sad it sounds I am a law student. I hate it to be honest. The utter conformity and conservative nature of the course just drives me insane. ‘Why are you doing law?’ I hear everyone asking in unison. Well the simple answer is I don’t bloody know! It’s like asking: Why
is John Howard such a tool? Because it is just the way it is dear reader! Anyway, I was venting in a manner that wasn’t anticipated by this most humble of writers. I just wanted to state that I was preparing for my mooting competition tomorrow and for all you non-law students I can’t be bothered explaining what mooting is. The succinct explanation is a whole bunch of wanker law students playing lawyer.
Anyhow, now that I got that off my chest I can talk about something I am actually passionate about and that is NBA basketball. I love this game!
The victors today were Miami over New Jersey 111-89. While on the west coast Los Angeles thrashed the Phoenix Suns 122-97. Well, I should have stated the Miami game was an ass spanking too, but everyone reading this is not only literate and able to decipher the aforementioned numbers. But, also all you guys are way smarter than this dumb writer.
In Miami it was the Dwayne Wade show when The Flash came out and dropped 17 of his 31 points in the first quarter to allow the Heat to get a massive jump on the Nets that proved deadly. Shaquille O’Neal who has been attracting a lot of attention lately from the officials (correctly too I might add) played more of a finesse game and complemented Wade with a 21 point output. White Chocolate aka Jason Williams also chipped in with 14 points to lead a nice all-round effort.
The first quarter was a fantastic building block for the Heat, taking a commanding 25-4 lead in the first six minutes to easily account for the Nets.
As stated in another entry a long time ago the Clippers have suddenly become a respectable team, and they put that new found aura of decency on display with an absolute pounding of the Suns. Perhaps the most glaring statistic from this game was the dominance in the rebounding numbers 57-26 in favour of Los Angeles. The size deficiency of the Suns was apparent with their acquiescing of the boards which in basketball terms is fatal.
Super-dooper Clipper, Elton Brand had 27 points and 10 boards, while the rest of the starting five for the Clips scored in double figures.
What is so great about not only the season that has just passed, but the postseason in general is the amount of scoring that is evident throughout the playoffs. It’s nothing like the bad old days in
the 90’s when an ugly defensive game was in vogue, epitomised by the New York Knicks who played like street thugs. The games are infinitely more attractive now and casual fans don’t need beer goggles in trying to find the beauty of basketball.
On that note please wish me luck with my mooting tomorrow. It’s going to be a massacre and I am the unfortunate soul who is the Senior Counsel so a lot of the responsibility is going to be on me. Ugh, why on earth did I volunteer to do this? I wish this was a bad dream.

This is going to be my future if I practice law. Lionel Hutz and in the clink. (Image from Wikipedia)
