NBA All-Star Game Starters.
January 26th 2007 09:44
Gilbert Arenas has been money lately at the end of games with last
second heroics and you can add the All-Star starting position as more evidence of Arenas’ clutch abilities. In the final days of the voting for the mid-season classic Agent Zero surged past the ever so popular Vince Carter to claim the second guard spot by just 3010 votes, which ended up being the fourth closest margin ever in All-Star history.
Agent Zero two weeks ago was still trailing VC by 200, 000 votes but overran the Nets star in the closing stretch topping off his MVP type season.
Being voted into the starting line-up must have eased a lot of the hurt Arenas felt last season when he made the squad as an injury reserve. Too put it succinctly the man is stoked: “It is an unbelievable feeling…Two years ago, I was voting myself in for the game. Now fans are voting me in, and I'm going to do what they are looking for. I've got something to give back to the fans during All-Star weekend.” (Mahoney, AP, 2007)
Gilbert the Great was helped with the defection of Allen Iverson to the West which would have seen AI stitch up the starting guard spot for the East.
LeBron James was the leading vote getter for the first time since the Yao dynasty began in the NBA with 2, 516, 049 votes. Yao came in a close second.
Besides Agent Zero, Bron-Bron was another player that was ecstatic being in the All-Star game and receiving the second highest vote tally ever just after Yao: “That's something I've never dreamed of…I've always wanted to be an All-Star, but being the leading vote-getter over guys like Vince Carter, Shaquille O'Neal, Dwyane Wade and Allen Iverson, you never think that's going to happen. Just getting the opportunity to be the leading vote-getter is kind of unbelievable.” (Mahoney, AP, 2007)
Congratulations to all of the starters who for the most part deserved their spots. When the reserve spots are in NBALOUD will have a more in-depth break down of the All-Star participants.

Thanks. And when I talk to my son, it's like I know what the hell I'm talking about.
