The Dallas Mavericks Live to Fight Another Day.
May 2nd 2007 12:39
Dallas were about to go down in a big way and Dirk Nowitzki was
acting French, rather than German (sorry, for the crude right wing humour) in the series so far against Golden State. Baron Davis was playing MVP calibre ball, whilst Dirk Diggler was nowhere near what anyone would consider to be pimping.
One game away from a humiliating first round exit and what does Dirk do? He rediscovers his mojo with a shot of basketball Viagra and carries his team to the victory, 118-112.
Dirk was simply magnificent scoring 30 points, including 12 in a 15-0 run over the final three minutes of the game. Golden State would be rueing a lost opportunity in ending Dallas’ season in fairytale fashion when they overcame a 21 point deficit and leading 112-103 after a hardcore 3-point basket from B. Dizzle that defied explanation.
After that it was all the Big Sauerkraut. The Dirk Diggler that Dallas has been wanting since the beginning of the postseason.
The Mavs were also assisted when volatile head case Stephen Jackson was ejected once again in this series and Davis fouled out of the contest just when Nowitzki took the game by the horns.
This contest was over when Dirk went ballistic.
Game 6 will be back in Oakland and you can bet you’re sweet ass that the G. State fans will be out in force and with full voice.
Toronto also staved off elimination today when they won game five against New Jersey, 98-96. As the final score would suggest the Raptors got by on the hairs of their chiny, chin, chins.
Jose Calderon was the star for Toronto scoring 25 points and Andrea Bargnani added a further 18 to see the Raptors fight another day.
New Jersey will also lament a lost opportunity when they overcame a 17 point hole and managed to lead by one with 28 seconds to go. After that Chris Bosh hit some key free throws to see the Raptors through and Bostjan Nachbar’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer failed to drop, wrapping up the win for Toronto.
Obviously. Because if Toronto lost, the coverage of this game would have had a different spin. Duh!
In NBALOUD’s absence of posting yesterday due to study commitments we neglected to report on the fact that Cleveland swept through their series against Washington and are now off to the next round. Was there any real surprise of the result of this series? The conclusion was preordained as soon as Gilbert Arenas went down for the season.
We wuz robbed!
As Washington’s playoff run comes to an end let’s give props to Antawn Jamison who was an absolute machine for the Wizards averaging 32 points in this series. He tried to keep it real, but it went wrong. Still, much love, Antawn.
Today’s clip is the top 10 plays from the playoff games we covered today. Er, except for the game involving Cleveland. That happened yesterday.
