Call in Rage Against the Machine because there was a battle for Los Angles today between the two teams from la-la land. There isn’t much competition as to who dominates the games and hearts between these two franchises. Kind of like Barcelona and Espanyol in the Spanish La Liga? Who? The other Catalan team! Didn’t know one existed did you, dear reader?

The Lakers have been stellar and are Hollywood, while the Clippers are the valley. No, offence to those who reside in the valleys of L.A.

Kobe Bryant was the headline act, but he was close to being a no show after injuring his groin in their last game. Well, Kobe isn’t the type to let a little groin problem get in the way of his basketball, scoring a very handy 32 points.

Although, the Lake Show won 113-92, it was Corey Maggette who provided the most memorable highlight when he made a bank hook shot from 48 feet away. "It was a crazy

shot," Bryant said. "It was a lucky shot. He's a strong dude, man." (AP, 2007)

Boston Celtics win…Boston Celtics win…Boston Celtics win…

It’s getting a tad predictable isn’t it? Dominating on the defensive end, the Celtics matched their longest winning streak in 14 years. Boston is also 20-2 for the season, and the last time they managed such an opening stanza – they won the championship.

Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett did the damage as usual overcoming the Toronto Raptors, 90-77.

The Celtics are one of the best defensive teams in the league and they showed off their shot stopping chops for the world to see.

"Our philosophy is that defence is going to win games for us," Garnett said. "We're trying to have the defence fuel the offence, and it's been working." (AP, 2007)

In all honesty, it would be great if the Celtics had another championship year because their star trio deserve at least one title.

Performance of the Day.

Who needs, Greg Oden? The Portland Trail Blazers certainly aren’t missing their number one pick if Brandon Roy keeps on ballin’ the way he has. Last season’s Rookie of the Year had 26 points and 11 assists in a starring role.

Portland deposed of the Denver Nuggets, 116-105. The Blazers were mighty impressive in this game because they also overcame a hot shooting night from Allen Iverson who scored 38 points.

A.I. may have got his, but it is Brandon Roy who is our performer of the day.

Today’s top 10 plays are on show. Watch Maggette’s crazy basket.

Tracy McGrady, Rafer Alston and Yao Ming collectively turned their game against Toronto into a nightmare of epic proportions when all three decided to torch their helpless opposition.

T-Mac scored 24, Skip to my Lou almost had a triple-double, while the big red machine added another 23 points and snatched 12 rebounds for good measure. Toronto was stunned, and done, to the tune of 114-100.

The Rockets never trailed the Raptors who were defenceless against a full fledged Houston attack. Done and done.

After Dirk Nowitzki’s “choke” of a performance against the Suns a few days ago many were questioning the cojones of the big man for Dallas who seemed to fade with the game on the line, while his former teammate and best friend thrived in the heat of battle. Dirk Diggler bore a big brunt of the criticism that he used as fuel today conjuring up a big performance in the clutch.

Dirk Diggler had 30 points in the game with 19 in the final to put to rest for now talks that he is a fourth quarter shrinking violet in their victory against Boston, 106-101.

When the game needed a hero Dirk Diggler strapped on his codpiece and hit every shot and free throw that was needed to carry his team over the line. Clutch.

The West is the stronger conference so says NBALOUD and other NBA observers? Well, Detroit dispelled that logic when the swept their west coast road trip 5-0 with the biggest scalp coming in their final game – Phoenix. The ‘D’ rocked into the valley of the sun and destroyed the run and gun Phoenix squad, 105-83.

Detroit reserve Flip Murray had a game to put into the personal memory bank with a season-high 25 point performance, with ‘Sheed adding 20 and C-Webb a further 17. Not only did Webber have a good performance but had a nasty reverse dunk to boot! He isn’t supposed to be able to do such things anymore.

Phoenix didn’t resemble anything of the fast running and shooting team that we have come to expect. Instead what we witnessed was a listless team that was careless with the ball resulting in 22 turnovers. Very un-Suns like.

We end coverage of today’s games with the standout performance from an individual. There is only one player in the league who is capable of jaw dropping offensive performances and he is one Kobe Bryant. The Laker superstar was sick to death of the slippery slide that was bedevilling his squad so he decided to go on a 65 point scoring binge. Los Angeles beat Portland in OT, 116-111.

The numbers speak for themselves: 24 points in the final quarter, nine in the overtime period, 23-for-39 shooting from the field, 8-for-12 from beyond the arc and finally, 11-for-12 from the free throw line.

Take a bow Kobe.

Today’s clip is Ron Artest's rap video for his song ‘Fever’. Check it out and judge for yourself the man’s rap skills and give NBALOUD your verdict.
