Corey Maggette gets Crazy Like Seal.

Call in Rage Against the Machine because there was a battle for Los Angles today between the two teams from la-la land. There isn’t much competition as to who dominates the games and hearts between these two franchises. Kind of like Barcelona and Espanyol in the Spanish La Liga? Who? The other Catalan team! Didn’t know one existed did you, dear reader?

The Lakers have been stellar and are Hollywood, while the Clippers are the valley. No, offence to those who reside in the valleys of L.A.

Kobe Bryant was the headline act, but he was close to being a no show after injuring his groin in their last game. Well, Kobe isn’t the type to let a little groin problem get in the way of his basketball, scoring a very handy 32 points.

Although, the Lake Show won 113-92, it was Corey Maggette who provided the most memorable highlight when he made a bank hook shot from 48 feet away. "It was a crazy

shot," Bryant said. "It was a lucky shot. He's a strong dude, man." (AP, 2007)

Boston Celtics win…Boston Celtics win…Boston Celtics win…

It’s getting a tad predictable isn’t it? Dominating on the defensive end, the Celtics matched their longest winning streak in 14 years. Boston is also 20-2 for the season, and the last time they managed such an opening stanza – they won the championship.

Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett did the damage as usual overcoming the Toronto Raptors, 90-77.

The Celtics are one of the best defensive teams in the league and they showed off their shot stopping chops for the world to see.

"Our philosophy is that defence is going to win games for us," Garnett said. "We're trying to have the defence fuel the offence, and it's been working." (AP, 2007)

In all honesty, it would be great if the Celtics had another championship year because their star trio deserve at least one title.

Performance of the Day.

Who needs, Greg Oden? The Portland Trail Blazers certainly aren’t missing their number one pick if Brandon Roy keeps on ballin’ the way he has. Last season’s Rookie of the Year had 26 points and 11 assists in a starring role.

Portland deposed of the Denver Nuggets, 116-105. The Blazers were mighty impressive in this game because they also overcame a hot shooting night from Allen Iverson who scored 38 points.

A.I. may have got his, but it is Brandon Roy who is our performer of the day.

Today’s top 10 plays are on show. Watch Maggette’s crazy basket.

B-Dizzle, Sizzles for G-State!

December 15th 2007 09:14
Boston is once again an intimidating place for opposing teams to visit, as the Celtics remain unbeaten at home. The latest victims of a Beantown beatdown were the Milwaukee Bucks who lost to the Celts, 104-82.

Paul Pierce scored a season high 32 points, with Kevin Garnett adding a lazy 15 points, whilst grabbing seven rebounds. Boston’s star trio was missing Ray Allen with an ankle injury, but it

didn’t matter, the Celtics still rule their roost.

The 12-0 unbeaten stretch matches the team’s second best start to the season at home, and who is going to bet against them on continuing this streak?

Ah, it looks like the young Seattle Supersonics is getting their act together with another win. This time it was the hapless Minnesota Timberwolves who fell on the Sonics sword, 99-88.

Seattle got a balanced effort from a number of their players with Chris Wilcox leading the pack scoring 19 points and snatching 11 rebounds. Veteran Sonics player, Kurt Thomas used all his experience adding a further 18. Kevin Durant, Luke Ridnour and Damien Wilkins all hit double digits also. Well, done guys.

Oh, guess what? The Sonics have a little winning streak on the road going on with their second win in a row.

LeBron James and Kevin Garnett may be leading the MVP talk, but don’t count out Orlando’s, Dwight Howard, whose Magic team took out the Charlotte Bobcats, 103-87.

Dwight Howard had another mammoth game with 33 points and 18 boards, while sending a shiver down the collective spines of his Charlotte opponents. Howard was so nasty that he made Darth Vader look like Ned Flanders. True, all the Bobcat players started adding ‘diddly’ to everything they said because of Howard.

Adding more flavour to the Howard ice-cream, the big man for Orlando recorded his 20th double-double, leading the league in this statistic. Want more numbers associated with Dwight? You should include four blocks as well for the night.

Performance of the Day.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the best arena to watch basketball in the NBA is in Oakland. Not only is O-Town an awesome basketball city, but the Golden State Warriors play the most exciting style of ball in the league, and their fans are loud as a Motorhead concert. The way the Warriors ball, makes the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain look organised!

Today the Los Angeles Lakers rolled into town with a swagger because they have pwned the Warriors of late. However, things were about to change today with G-State pipping the Lake Show, 108-106.

Los Angeles dominated the first half of the game, but the home team came roaring back with a vengeance in the third on the backs of Al Harrington and Monta Ellis. G-State’s star, Baron Davis was a non-factor in the third because he had five fouls, so he had to sit out till crunch time.

However, when the fourth quarter rolled around, the Baron came to life hitting the decisive 3-point basket with 16 seconds to play in the game. It was an exciting and breathtaking performance from B-Dizzle. Take a bow, champ!

Today’s video displays Baron to full effect. Word!

Kobe Bryant dunk.

All hail Kobe! A week is a long time in basketball and it wasn’t so long ago that Bryant was derided in this space for being a thug-lite baller, now he is quite simply the bee’s knees. Kobe put forward another unforgettable performance when he became the first Laker in 44 years to score at least 50 points in consecutive games.

In his last outing Kobe had 65 and against the Timberwolves today he dropped 50. Needless to say that Los Angeles came out victorious, 109-102.

The last Laker to accomplish back-to-back 50 point outings was Elgin Baylor who did it three straight times in 1962, and in the last decade only Antawn Jamison and Allen Iverson have

reached such lofty scoring heights.

It’s apparent that Bryant has taken it upon himself to be the Lakers saviour after their seven game slide. To paraphrase the immortal George Costanza: He’s back baby!

Meanwhile, Houston went into Philadelphia and pillaged and plundered the Sixers for all they were worth in a lopsided, 124-74 victory. It marked the biggest road win in Houston franchise history and on the flipside it was Philly’s largest home loss as well.

Yao Ming top scored with 24 and Tracy McGrady added a further 21 as the Rockets ran roughshod all over the terrible Sixers. We can only assume that this loss stung.

Miami and Orlando battled it out for home State bragging rights with the Magic conjuring up a win in a puff of smoke while pulling a rabbit out of a hat, 97-83. Sorry, readers for that lousy metaphor.

Orlando played inspired basketball with Hedo Turkoglu leading the charge dropping 20 points and Dwight Howard also joining the magic show adding a further 17 points, whilst grabbing 11 rebounds. One final note: Orlando ended Miami’s nine game winning streak.

After Detroit’s outstanding west coast run you’d expect them to continue their good form at home – you’d be mistaken. In the battle of the ‘double Ds’ Dallas was victorious, 92-88.

D-irk was D-elightful and D-elicious scoring a D-evastating 28 points. This alliteration from NBALOUD has been D-isgraceful.

The New York Knicks playing decent basketball? Yes, you read correctly they are not as awful as they were earlier this season and not only that they beat their Division rivals, the Toronto Raptors, 92-74.

Stephon Marbury scored 14 of his 21 points in the third stanza and Channing Frye added another 20 to steer the Knicks to the win.

Today’s clip is of course Kobe Bryant’s 65 point performance against the Trailblazers in the Lakers’ last game.

Tracy McGrady, Rafer Alston and Yao Ming collectively turned their game against Toronto into a nightmare of epic proportions when all three decided to torch their helpless opposition.

T-Mac scored 24, Skip to my Lou almost had a triple-double, while the big red machine added another 23 points and snatched 12 rebounds for good measure. Toronto was stunned, and done, to the tune of 114-100.

The Rockets never trailed the Raptors who were defenceless against a full fledged Houston attack. Done and done.

After Dirk Nowitzki’s “choke” of a performance against the Suns a few days ago many were questioning the cojones of the big man for Dallas who seemed to fade with the game on the line, while his former teammate and best friend thrived in the heat of battle. Dirk Diggler bore a big brunt of the criticism that he used as fuel today conjuring up a big performance in the clutch.

Dirk Diggler had 30 points in the game with 19 in the final to put to rest for now talks that he is a fourth quarter shrinking violet in their victory against Boston, 106-101.

When the game needed a hero Dirk Diggler strapped on his codpiece and hit every shot and free throw that was needed to carry his team over the line. Clutch.

Nothing could stop Kobe from reaching the basket today. (Photo by Andrew D. Bernstein/NBAE via Getty Images)
The West is the stronger conference so says NBALOUD and other NBA observers? Well, Detroit dispelled that logic when the swept their west coast road trip 5-0 with the biggest scalp coming in their final game – Phoenix. The ‘D’ rocked into the valley of the sun and destroyed the run and gun Phoenix squad, 105-83.

Detroit reserve Flip Murray had a game to put into the personal memory bank with a season-high 25 point performance, with ‘Sheed adding 20 and C-Webb a further 17. Not only did Webber have a good performance but had a nasty reverse dunk to boot! He isn’t supposed to be able to do such things anymore.

Phoenix didn’t resemble anything of the fast running and shooting team that we have come to expect. Instead what we witnessed was a listless team that was careless with the ball resulting in 22 turnovers. Very un-Suns like.

We end coverage of today’s games with the standout performance from an individual. There is only one player in the league who is capable of jaw dropping offensive performances and he is one Kobe Bryant. The Laker superstar was sick to death of the slippery slide that was bedevilling his squad so he decided to go on a 65 point scoring binge. Los Angeles beat Portland in OT, 116-111.

The numbers speak for themselves: 24 points in the final quarter, nine in the overtime period, 23-for-39 shooting from the field, 8-for-12 from beyond the arc and finally, 11-for-12 from the free throw line.

Take a bow Kobe.

Today’s clip is Ron Artest's rap video for his song ‘Fever’. Check it out and judge for yourself the man’s rap skills and give NBALOUD your verdict.
