Cassell, Wade and 'Paris' Break Hearts in the NBA
May 15th 2006 07:53
Oops, Dwayne Wade did it again, while Sam I Am buried the Suns with heartbreak inducing three point shots in the dying seconds. The Miami Heat is one win away from returning to the Eastern Conference finals with a
102-92 win over the New Jersey Nets to lead their series 3-1. While, the Phoenix/Los Angeles series gets more compelling by the day with the Clips coming up trumps 114-107 to tie the best of seven series 2-a-piece.
D-Wade had 31 points, eight assists and seven rebounds to take the Heat to the brink in meeting Detroit (yes, I know it is a little premature to make that call). Wade has confidently asserted that when the Heat plays in the manner that embodies their basketball they are a hard team to overcome: "We're not surprised. When we play Miami Heat basketball on both ends of the floor, we're a tough team to beat, at home or on the road," Wade said. "We go home to Game 5 and try to close it out at home" (Mahoney, AP, 2006).
Wade was breathtaking but he was ably assisted by Antoine Walker and Udonis Haslem in key stretches to snuff the fight of Jersey with both players dropping 20 points to make it almost impossible for the Nets to be victorious.
The indomitable Jason Kidd had yet another triple-double, 17 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists, but still couldn’t get Jersey over the line. Kidd must really be feeling the frustration in the twilight of his career and I do sincerely feel for him. Throughout the history of the game there have been selfish assholes who have garnered more accolades than they deserve, but a selfless player like Kidd looks like leaving the stage without the titles that he so passionately craves. Jason I hope you do get that title and that you aren’t a bit player in that championship.
In Los Angeles on the other hand the Laker fans must be having coronaries right now with the success of the Clippers. As stated earlier the alien known as Sam Cassell who came on cold in the fourth quarter hit two 3-point shots in a row with seconds left to take the game for L.A. Cassell has lived for the big moments and has hit some big time shots. Call the Men in Black because there is an alien on the loose and his credentials might be a bit iffy!
But kudos to Sam I am for changing the make-up of the game in 35 seconds.
Reigning two times MVP Steve Nash was held to a sub-par eight point and 11 assist effort, with Stevie Wonder stating that: “The way they're playing me, I'm not going to have a prolific scoring series," he said. ‘I've got to play a little better -- I'm not playing very well the last couple of games” (Nadel, AP, 2006).
It is great news that the ghosts of the abhorrent Clipper teams of the past has been buried with this outfit and all NBA fans out there should be hoping this series goes down to the wire.
In other news the New York Knicks are reportedly set to buy out Coach Larry Brown’s contract. Gee, didn’t see that coming. I was confident this relationship was as rock solid as all of Paris Hilton’s engagements! I am now officially left with egg on my face!
