NBA Loud - by Rick Gillispie

Carmelo Anthony is Snubbed for the All-Star Game.

February 2nd 2007 12:24
The All-Star game reserves were announced today with Carmelo Anthony getting a right royal snub from the league’s coaches by being excluded from the big

game. It’s almost unfathomable that the league’s leading scorer and not to mention one of its best players has been overlooked for the game in Vegas but it would appear that one bad night in New York has tarnished Melo’s reputation. Just wait till the All-Star weekend and see what type of shenanigans transpire in Sin City, which will make Melo’s moonwalk as badass as a Star Trek convention.

Anthony’s Denver superstar teammate Allen Iverson was picked for an eighth consecutive year but it is Melo’s absence from the reserves list which is the glaring omission. Carmelo understood what was at stake and made a public plea to the coaches to not let one incident taint his status and the unfairness of it all that his character be judged by one boneheaded mistake.

Obviously his words fell on deaf ears. All is not lost for Anthony though who might be named as a replacement for an injured Yao.

Now, that NBALOUD has duly vented we may as well go through the rest of the reserves to see who has been chosen.

In the West we have Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, Carlos Boozer, Tony Parker and Dirk Nowitzki as the reserves for the better half of the NBA.

Moving to the East which of now is the least, we have Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton making their second straight All-Star appearances. Jason Kidd of course his teammate Vince Carter, with Jermaine O’Neal also garnering a spot in the squad and a couple of first-timers in Caron Butler and Dwight Howard rounding off the rest of the Eastern All-Stars.

Generally speaking the choices of both the starters and reserves for both sides are excellent picks with no obvious names that shouldn’t be there. Well, besides Shaquille O’Neal that is! Sorry, the Big Aristotle doesn’t deserve a spot in the All-Star game.

Naturally, many deserving players have been overlooked because there are only so many spots in this game with many worthy cats being overlooked – Elton Brand, Joe Johnson, Josh Howard and Deron Williams to name a few.

Good players on bad teams such as Zach Randolph, Ray Allen and Michael Redd have also missed out on a spot but truth be told players on winning teams should get the nod. Oh and going back to Shaq’s place in the squad – players that have been injured for most of the season should miss out too!

This writer is hoping that Carmelo will make the squad somehow this year or it would be the second injustice that has befallen the star Nugget this season. The first obviously being right royally screwed in his 15 game suspension by a heavy handed NBA.

Who else do you readers think should be in the All-Star team? C’mon don’t be shy. This writer will be your best friend!

What about Kevin Garnett, Stephon Marbury, Kobe Bryant and the first positive move to speed the process of getting one of the best back into the NBA - a return of Latrell Sprewell for the East instead of Vince Carter!
